Cymbalta Information:
Is This Medication Right For You?

cymbalta-information

I have a lot of Cymbalta information on this site that should prove helpful to you whether you are looking to learn about the side effects of Cymbalta, the proper Cymbalta dosage that you should take, or the signs of Cymbalta withdrawal. So, if you want to learn about this medication, I hope I can provide you with the information you are looking for.

Before we get into a lot of the specifics, let me give you some general Cymbalta information such as “What is this medication and what is it used for?”

Cymbalta, also known as the generic name Duloxetine, is a Serotonin Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor, or SNRI, made by the pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly. What is an SNRI? If you want to know the science behind it, you can read about SNRI’s, SSRI, MAOI’s, etc. on my depression medications page which explains all of this in more detail.

If you think about it, reuptake means “increase the level” so a SNRI will increase the levels of both Serotonin and Norepinephrine With SSRI’s, Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors, it will increase the level of serotonin only. Serotonin and Norepinephrine are neurotransmitters in the brain that directly affect our moods. Well, there’s a lot more to it, but I won’t bore you with all of the science speak!

So, with that said, let’s get back to what Cymbalta is used for. This medication is used to treat five different conditions that include Major Depression Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathic Pain, Fibromyalgia and Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain.

Since each of these are very different, the cymbalta dosage will be different as well. It’s important to mention that, while it has been proven to help these conditions, it has not been proven that it helps in patients that take it for longer than 3 months.

    How to Take It?

When taking this medication, take it daily as prescribed. Be sure to swallow it whole so you don’t minimize its effects. And, if you miss a dose take it as soon as you can unless it is really close to your next dose time. In which case, skip the missed dose and move on to your “regularly scheduled program”! Also, you can store this at room temperature with no problems.

If you decide to take it, don’t just stop taking it abruptly because you will experience symptoms of Cymbalta withdrawal and withdrawal of any kind is no fun at all!
