Clinical Depression Symptoms
What You Need to Look For

There are many different kinds of clinical depression symptoms and it is important to recognize that depressive disorders affect people differently. They will vary depending on the type of depression you might have.

List of Clinical Depression Symptoms

Generally speaking the signs of a clinical depressive disorder include the following:

  • Feelings of loneliness
  • Frequent headaches
  • Over-eating or drinking too much or
  • Loss of appetite
  • Insomnia or hypersomnia (sleeping too much)
  • Low levels of energy, feeling lethargic
  • Low self-esteem
  • Lack of interest in participating in festivities
  • Feelings of hopelessness, frustration and/or anxiety
  • Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
  • Again, this is a general list of the symptoms. They will vary depending on the type of depressive illness you are suffering with and, as I mentioned the individual experiencing the illness. So, I encourage you to go through my site and learn about the different types of depressive disorders to determine which one you might have.

The good news is that this disease is very treatable once properly diagnosed. Usually within just 2 weeks of treatment clients will begin to feel "normal" again. There are many research studies that have determined this. In fact, Cognitive Behavior Therapy is one of the most successful.

You can also take a depression test to confirm that you are depressed and determine just how serious it really is. A very popular test is the Becks Depression Inventory test. It is a test that I use with my clients. This test is heavily copyrighted so you won't find it online (legally, anyway!) However, you can also check out other options that will allow you to take a depression test online.

The only caveat is that this is not a proper way to get a diagnosis. It is simply another reference point so you can determine if you need to take further action.

To obtain a real diagnosis you really need to rely on a counselor or therapist to help you. Once diagnosed, together you can determine the best treatment options. Once you get an idea as to what clinical depression symptoms you are faced with, you can then begin to explore depression medications, therapy, and other treatment options.

If you are experiencing symptoms and think you might be depressed, there is hope! There are many treatments for depression. Determining the right treatment for you can be done with the help of a mental health professional. Once properly diagnosed and treatment begins, odds are in your favor that you'll feel better in just a few short weeks.
