Abilify prescribing information will depend on how old the patient is and which condition is being treated. Typically, the physician will start the patient off with a minimum dosage to develop a base line. If the dosage needs to be increased, it will be done so gradually over the course of a few weeks. So, Abilify dosage will vary.

Elderly patients with signs or confirmed dementia should not take this medication as there is an increased risk of death , stroke and transient ischemic attacks as a result.

Elderly patients are also at risk of tardive dyskinesis, a syndrome that is potentially irreversible and causes involuntary body movements and tremors. There isn’t a treatment found yet to treat tardive dyskinesis.

Also, if the medication is taken as a complimentary treatment for major depressive disorder, there may be an increase in suicidal thoughts.

Patients with Diabetes should monitor their glucose levels closely as there is a risk of Hyperglycemia and Diabetes Mellitus.

Patients with cardiovascular or ceerebrovascular diseases should use it with caution as it can cause Orthostatic Hypotension.

Patients who have low white blood cell count or drug induced leucopenia neutropenia should closely monitor their complete blood count and the medication should be discontinued if there is a significant drop in the white blood count

Patients prone to seizures / convulsions may be at higher risk Patients prone to suicidal ideation may be at a higher risk, particularly in patients with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
