Depression Poems: Life goes on

by Toni Edwards
(Queensland)

Life goes on,

my world aint changin..
my daddy's drinkin,
my mummy's ragin..
I'm tryin to rest my head,
while tears are flowin..
I'm use to this though,
no fear is showin..
mummy hits dad,
daddy hits mum..
I'm oh so confused,
I'm startin to feel dumb!
I look at mummy's wrists,
she starts to hide.
I look her in the eyes,
she pushes me aside.
I wanna ask why,
but no one will hear.
I think imma cry,
cause this aint fear.
This life aint easy,
but I dont really care..
I'm gonna stop now,
This is it, I've had my share.

Toni,

What a very powerful poem. Not sure if this is written about the past or present. I truly hope that you are not still living in an abusive environment. If you are, please know that there is help out there. You do not have to live in an unsafe home.

On my depression hotlines page there are some international numbers that you can call for support, guidance and, perhaps, finding local resources to help you.

Don't give up on yourself. Their behavior is about their own struggles with life - it is not about you. I encourage you to reach out and find the support you need. A professional can help you evaluate your situation and come up with a plan of action that will eventually lead to you living a healthy, fulfulling life!

Wishing you all the best and sending love and light,

Dana
