Depression and Provigil
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly!

Many people search the internet for depression and Provigil because word on the street is that it can be used for depression. Before you consider using it for depression you need to understand the good, the bad, and the ugly!!

The Good

Provigil was first introduced into the market by Cephalon, Inc. in 1999. It was prescribed originally to help people feel more alert and awake, focusing on patients that suffered with narcolepsy and other similar disorders. Not too far after its introduction, doctors starting prescribing it to help patients with depression treating common symptoms of depression including anxiety, loss of energy and fatigue.

The Bad

There are many possible side effects including the following:

  • Insomnia
  • Numbness
  • Headache
  • Nervousness
  • Chills
  • Tingling
  • Diarrhea
  • Heart palpitations
  • Blood pressure increase or decrease
  • Hives, swelling
  • Shortness of breath
  • Sore throat

And, hopefully it goes without saying that provigil is not good if you are pregnant, or are breast feeding, have circulatory, kidney or liver disease, angina, high blood pressure, history of heart disease, then you should seriously talk to your doctor before taking provigil.

    The Ugly

Okay, so folks have discovered that depressed patients need help feeling more alert and awake. Point taken. However, when you really take a look at the side effects of Provigil, you will see that you need to proceed with caution. There have been studies that have shown that Provigil side effects may actually make your depression even worse. See Consumer Injury Lawyers for more information.

They have information that the FDA has even established warnings that the use of Provigil may cause serious side effects including suicidal thought, anxiety, halllucinations and mania! Now, if taking Provigil results in suicidal thoughts, can it be in the best interest if someone already depressed?!

I recommend you talk to a doctor and consider all the pros and cons before looking at the combination of depression and provigil!

There are many other effective depression medications that you can consider. I have a lot of information on this site. There are so many other depression treatment options to consider. So be sure to weigh all your options before deciding on an appropriate treatment.
